Be able to select variant when using Preview

When using Journey Orchestrator it would be helpful be able to select and send a sample of a particular variant from Programs or Outreaches. Currently, we have multiple variants based on language of the contact. When selecting "Preview" from the email task in Programs, we are presented with random sample of contacts from the participant list but there is no way to determine what variant they are being sent without clicking on each one. We would like to be able to view a Preview of each variant and send a sample copy internally to review how the final copy will display in an email application. This would help us with quality control to ensure fonts, links, spacing, tokened fields, etc are all displaying as expected when delivered.

Thanks for sharing this use case.





I think the right approach for this would be to manually note down the contacts which you know to be of different languages and test whether the right variant is shown in Preview.





If we decide to show all variants for the selected contact in email preview, then it conflicts with the primary objective which is to help admins to know which variant of the email will be sent to the contact.





And to another point raised, when you select Preview for programs, you get the list of all contacts synced into the program and not a subset, you should be able to search and choose any of the contact.

For Programs, I am able to see all participants in Preview but for Outreaches it only shows a small sample of participants from the Powerlist. Does this sample pull in at least one contact for each variant (if one exists)? Some of our Powerlists have over 3000 contacts so it is challenging to manually note which contacts have a different language and then compare this to the preview list.





It would ideal to be able to select Preview, then choose a variant, and then see a sample of contacts that would be receiving the variant based on the filter.

We are working on creating renewal messaging for our customers and are splitting the variants based on whether the customer is on auto-renewal or non-auto renewal.

The majority of our customers are on auto renewal and so those are the customers that come up in previews (even when clicking through many contacts) so we are never able to see what the non-auto renewal messaging looks like in preview.

 

Ideally we’d be able to select which variant we are previewing manually so that we can see what the messaging looks like for our non-auto renewal customers to ensure (a) they are pulling in correctly to the program and (b) that the formatting and messaging look ok without needing to apply additional filters in our contact list in the program.

When you preview the Email Step in the Program, you can search for a participant from the field at the top (it will either be email or name depending on whether you’ve named name in Participant mapping). After selecting the participant from the search, hit enter and that will bring up the preview for that participant as determined by the variant filtering you’ve used. If it doesn’t bring up the right variant, then you’ll probably want to review your filtering.
