Improve Data Designer - User Look Up is stripped

Related products: None

The user look up functionality on a dashboard filter is stripped for any user fields that are in a data design created MDA table.

Normally when you create a report and filter by user ID, GS automatically enables a user look up functionality which is so fantastic and removes any issue of misspelling or needing to capitalize a name (since that can be an issue, depending on where the data is stored).

Unfortunately, that functionality goes away when you create an MDA via data designer.  Users then have to manually type our their name or others, which is not the end of the world, but an inconsistent user experience that can be hard to explain

Hi @andorfuhrer,

Gainsight relies on Mappings to identify these special fields. Data designer automatically inherits the mappings if you bring in both id and name after expanding the + icon. Example if there is an Account Owner field that looks up to User, do not check Account Owner, but expand Account Owner and check the GSID, Name fields from User object.

Let me know if you are still facing any challenges here.

Hi Andor.

Please expand the + icon for the lookup fields and select the fields from there. That will solve your issue.

Bumping this up.  I don’t think either of the comments address this issue.  The issue here is that if you include the “CSM” user lookup field, your only option is to story that as a Text Field.  If you want the Manager field(s) you then have to bring in all of those as text fields as well.

Instead, if you could establish (even manually) the lookup path then you’d be able to use dynamic filters for dashboarding so that you could use the “Current User” / Other User filter. This would also prevent having to bring in a bunch of extra fields that would otherwise just be able to be added in reporting by using the lookup ID to pull in Email, Name, etc.

This is also true for Company ID if you have a DD at the relationship level.
