I'm working on expanding one of our (custom) Timeline Activity Types and realized that I can't use the Multi-Select Drop Down.  I can only use Single Select Drop Down.

Is there a possibility of expanding out the Timeline to include Multi-Select Drop Down options?  

Use Case:  We have a user who is speaking with our customers about a new product feature and often times covers a number of topics when speaking to the customer.  We use Timeline to post all of our updates - as it's easier for everyone to see what's going on.  [<3 Global Timeline] We're running into a problem of how to 'tag' the features she covers so it's reportable.  One idea that we had was to use the Drop Down (Category) feature.  As the reporting looks nice and breaks it out - so we could in turn get numbers based off the features covered.  [But in current production, Drop Down only supports Single Select.]

[i]Additional Information: When updating or creating a new Timeline Activity Type; under the Configuration Layout field - there are a number of Field Types, Drop Down being one of them.  However in the current case, the Category that you want to be featured here must be a Single Selec[i]t.  If listed as a Multi-Select it will not appear as an available Category for you.

This is something on our mid-term roadmap. Hopefully we’ll get to it by the end of this year.

It’s currently not possible to use multi-select picklist fields in the “Group By” area for reporting so @sagan_sherlin can we piggyback adding that functionality to this request? I imagine your use case and others will eventually mean someone will want to report on this field. The ability to group by multi-select dropdowns will open up other reporting as well! + 1. One of my customers have multiple products and want to specify which products were talked about in a meeting. They can't do that because there is option for only single select and they can talk about more than one product at a time.

Hi,

I have an use case reported by one of the customer they are looking to add a multi-select because a CSM may touch on multiple purposes in one call/meeting that they are looking to log. The multiselect will also limit the time a CSM takes to create a create logs.

+1 - We'd like to be able to minimize the need to create multiple timeline entries. Ideally, our CSMs could log a customer meeting or touchpoint and then have a way within the entry to select multiple options from a standard set of deliverables for what was actually "delivered" during that touchpoint.

Would like to have this feature. Have a requirement to make a multi-picklist Product Category field in order to allow the CSM to choose more than one category. Any workaround? Using check-box fields do not replace this feature as we have to many values on the Product category field.

Any Updates on this ask? We have another customer who would love to have multi select picklists as their use cases fall short of them when we don’t have this functionality as this would mean we need to rely on Text in Notes section which may or may not be reliable.

This came up for my Org this week. We have an activity type for Critical Issues and have an outage across multiple business lines. A multi-select pick list would be ideal so that the team could identify which business line was impacted as it varies widely which clients use which services. Thx!

That's what actually spawned this idea. We have a new type of CSM user that engages with customers outside of the assigned Account Executive. And if the customer brings up a Product/Feature and CSM creates a Timeline entry - there isn't a pretty way to report on that.

Yes! I'm always trying to find a way to save my CSMs time - and having a multi-select, would certainly shave off more than a few minutes for them!

+1 use case would be for our code red process, using the dropdown to identify one or multiple reasons a customer is in code red.

We're using timeline as way to track activities related to org level initatives. Sometimes a meeting covers multiple initiatitves so a multi-picklist would make a lot of sense here. There aren't great alternatives: Logging multiple activities or adding a free text field.

+1 for us too. Our alternative now is to use checkboxes, but this can easily become impractical to manage.
